Being organized is hard. There’s always a lot going on and a bunch of things to stay on top of. What are some of the ways to do it? A common one that I hear every year is staying organized. Whether you need to keep track of deadlines, assignments, or important dates/appointments, organization is easy to achieve if you know the way that works best for you.
Depending on what you need to organize, there are many different options you can choose between.
Organization Options:
- Smartphone Calendars: If you’re a super busy person and just need a quick “glance at the calendar to know when everything is” solution, the easiest tool would be a calendar app on your smartphone. I personally have an iPhone, so I am very familiar with the functions of the app and how easy it is to use and share events with people also attending.
- Store-bought Planners: Stores such as Target, Wal-Mart, and Michael’s have tons of colorful and affordable planners that can be customized to your need. For all of high school, I used store-bought planners for keeping track of my assignments and due dates. It was always easy to keep in my backpack and I loved being able to write down plans. With all of the dates written in for you, all you have to do is write down the assignment and the due date, making it one of the easiest options.
- Whiteboard Calendars: This option requires a bit more preparation and supplies, such as whiteboard markers in your choice of color, an eraser, erasing spray, and/or cute magnets to decorate it. Whiteboard calendars are great for at-a-glance planning, such as “Econ 202 Final July 7, 9:10am.” Short, simple notes that tell you everything you need to know about the plan/deadline. It’s not as good for keeping track of detailed assignments, such as “Essay for Philosophy, make sure to focus on…” It also requires (depending on if it’s a monthly or weekly) updating the dates of the board and checking them. While it’s not the most time consuming, it does require more effort than the previous options.
- Bullet Journals: This is by far my favorite option because it is the option that I am currently using to stay organized. While it is the most time consuming option in this post, it is also the most creative and fun. Because of the blank dotted pages, you get to design your weekly/monthly layout however you please. Or you could simply write down dates that matter on the pages without creating a calendar. In these choices, that’s the beauty of the bullet journal. You have the option to design it however you want and that freedom is absolutely amazing. All you truly need for a bullet journal is a blank journal and a pen, but you can get different supplies depending on what you want to do with the designs. You can get colored pens, watercolor markers, washi tape, stickers, and artwork. For the more creative people with a bit more time on their hands, the bullet journal is an excellent option for staying organized and having fun while doing it.
Those are the most popular and easy options for staying organized! I have personally used each of these methods for staying organized and they have all helped me in different ways. It truly depends on the type of person you are and which option works best for you.
If you have any other ideas or suggestions, please leave a comment and I will incorporate it into this post with more detail!
