We’re reaching the peak heat of summer and there are tons of ways to cool off. Jumping into a pool, wading into the ocean, hanging around inside (with the AC blasting, of course), or my personal favorite: drinking an ice cold strawberry smoothie.
Being a collegiate athlete, I have to be careful about what I eat and drink. Since I won’t let myself eat ice cream or have milkshakes (what used to be my favorite desserts in the entire world), I have this healthy alternative. And with the heat of summer, it’s perfect.
I like to have protein powder in my smoothie because I usually have them after my workouts. I start off with Designer Whey Protein Powder in the flavor French Vanilla. I mix it with a some water with a scoopful of powder so that when I mix it all together with my blender it won’t get super clumpy and difficult to work with.
After I’m done mixing that together, I tend to use about ten to fifteen strawberries. I like to cut the tops off and then cut them in half after rinsing them thoroughly with water. I put them all in the blender along with the protein powder/water mix. After making sure that everything is blended, I add one to two scoops of Orange Sherbet to add a small dose of citrus and sweetness to that it can remind me of a milkshake while being healthy and good for me.
Sometimes I add a few greens into my smoothie, like kale, or orange juice instead of sherbet to change up the flavor. The best part about making my own smoothies is being able to choose what I want for whatever reason I want. I know some people who add collagen to their smoothies for physical purposes, while others have only vegetables and fruit in theirs. You can have whatever you want!
