My Makeup Routine!

I’ve been using makeup since my junior year of high school and since then I have found some wonderful products that I absolutely swear by. My routine hasn’t changed much since I found what really worked for me, but sometimes I’ll switch out products depending on the time of year and condition of my skin. As of right now, I am using my winter shade of foundation and cooler tones. Here is my current makeup routine!

Moisturiser

This is a super important step to me because the first barrier on the skin is something that I always want to pay attention to. I have two products that I switch between depending on the day. I have the Rodan and Fields Soothe Moisture Replenishing Cream and the Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream. I adore both and think they are wonderful items that are worth the price tag. Both work with my skin type, but I went through a couple of moisturisers to find the right one for me. I would recommend doing your research and finding one that works best for you!

Primer

This is one of the steps that has rarely changed since I added it to my routine. I mostly used the hydrating primer by Fenty Beauty, but received a deluxe sample of the Tatcha Liquid Silk Primer and I have been loving it. It’s a quite a bit more expensive, coming in at $52 for a full bottle, but it’s such high quality that it’s worth it. Primer is such an important part of my beauty routine because it helps keep the foundation in place and also creates a barrier to keep pollutants from coming to the base layer of my skin. I feel comfortable putting more effort into finding the best primer so that my skin will be fresh!

Foundation

I had to play around a bit to find the best foundation for my skin. Right now, I’m using MAC’s Studio Fix foundation in the shade NC15 and I’m a big fan. I feel like it lasts a long time while I am at work and doesn’t smudge with my glasses. You can find it at Ulta or on the MAC website! It’s a good foundation and there’s a lot of days where it’s the only layer on my face along with my primer.

Bronzer

There are only two bronzers I have used in all of the years that I have being using makeup, which speaks for how much I like them. I have the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer and the Tarte Park Avenue Princess Bronzer Palette. Since the Park Ave Princess bronzer palette isn’t available anymore, the most similar one I have found is Tarte’s Bronzer linked here. Both are great and I love both equally.

Brows

I have such thick eyebrows that I usually don’t use eyebrow products, but I do use brow gel. When I want to have them a little darker, I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Medium Brown. I also use Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel, which I have been using for years.

Eyeshadow

While I don’t wear much eyeshadow, I do love any and all palettes from Anastasia Beverly Hills. I love the Modern Renaissance one the most, with Soft Glam right after. Those are the ones I use the most when creating eye looks!

Eyeliner

I have hooded eyes, so it’s rare for me to wear eyeliner. Sometimes, I’ll use a coloured eye pencil from Urban Decay. I have some gold ones, some brown ones, and some metallics. I don’t know the names so I can’t link them, unfortunately.

Mascara

While I have tried several mascaras, there is only one that I will recommend to everyone. The Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir mascara has been game changing! It is so good for volume and the colour is so dark and my lashes stand out every time I use it. It’s worth the $27, for sure!

Highlighter

There are four that I rotate between. All are wonderful, of course. I have the Anastasia Beverly Hills x Amrezy Golden Highlighter, but it is no longer available. I go between the Fenty Beauty Highlighters Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby and Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal. I also have the MAC highlighter that I don’t know the name of, so I can’t use it. I recommend all of these highlighters!

Finishing Spray

I have the Prep and Prime + in Goldlite, which I love. It locks all of the makeup in place and keeps it looking fresh all day. There is a reason that the Prep and Prime+ is a cult favourite! I highly recommend it in all of the different varieties available.

Lipstick

I have a lot of lip products. Most of my lipstick is from MAC, including cult favourites Velvet Teddy and Ruby Woo. There are so many shades to choose from that everyone will find multiple shades that work for them!

That is my entire makeup routine! If there’s a super-special event or something like that, I might add some more to the routine, but 99% of the time, this is my exact makeup routine. I have used all of these products for so long that they are tried and true. Have you used any of these products? Do you have any recommendations or opinions? Let me know down in the comments. And, as always, thank you so much for reading!

Love,

Kaitlin
