There is a lot going on in the world. It’s easy to get caught up in trying to follow everything that’s happening and try to make sense of it all. Even though it’s a new year, I’m seeing more and more of my friends talk more about the news and what’s happening in the world rather than their resolutions and focusing on themselves. I do agree–it’s important to listen to the news and know what’s going on. But it’s also important to take care of ourselves. I updated my self-care routine and wanted to share it, if only to gently remind everyone that we need to take care of ourselves from time to time.
There are a few different ways to perform self-care. It depends on each person. For one, it might be watching their favourite show while scrolling through Instagram. For another, it might be sleeping in past ten am on the weekends. For me, personally, it’s a little different.
Hot Bath with Bubbles
When I’m feeling stressed or sore, I like hot bubble baths. The hot water relaxes my muscles, the bubbles lift my spirits, and I always feel calm. Sometimes I have a face mask on (the steam from the hot water opens pores, making the face mask that much more effective) and listen to calming music (I have been obsessed with the soundtrack to Emma with Anya Taylor-Joy as of late). Sometimes I just listen to music or I read through a book whilst relaxing. Overall, this is one of my favourite ways to perform self-care!
Curling Up With a Good Book
Self-care can also be doing something that you love. It’s no secret that I’m a bibliophile and I have a love for books. When I need a moment for myself, I find a good book and curl up on my bed with a bunch of blankets and dive into the fictional world. Depending on my mood, I go for either fantasy or something light-hearted. I always feel better after reading a good, long book.
Book Journaling
This is something I just started doing in 2021. After every book or series I read, I find some pictures that fit the aesthetic of the book and write down my thoughts about it. I write down my rating, the synopsis, and what I liked about the book/series. The end result is always super pretty and it’s fun to revisit my thoughts on past reads. I use a Leuchtturm 1917 journal and all of the Tombow pens I use for my bullet journal. I love it, and will blog about it in the future!
These are my favourite self-care tactics to use in my routine! It’s really easy to get stressed with everything going on in the world, especially with the pandemic and the unprecedented times. What do you do for your self-care? Anything like mine? Let me know in the comments! And, as always, thank you for reading!
Love,
Kaitlin
