I Tried a Barre Class!

Since finishing collegiate volleyball, I have been trying a bunch of different fitness alternatives. From running, yoga, rock climbing, and more, I have been keeping my options open regarding different ways I can workout. One of the classes I was looking forward to the most was barre class! I had my first class today and it was great!

Barre class is based off of the barre from ballet, but with movements that focus on isometric strengths with many repetitions and low weights. For the past couple of months, I’ve been looking into ballet classes and barre classes because not only do these classes give you a major workout, they also have a very pleasing aesthetic.

I took my first barre class at my on-campus recreational complex. It was an early morning barre class and since my campus is mostly a commuter-school, it was only me and the instructor for the entire class. And it was great! It was so awesome to be in the class and getting to know all of the movements while being able to chat one-on-one with the instructor. It was great for my first class so that I could be totally comfortable while learning the movements and techniques.

I liked the barre class because the movements worked muscles that I didn’t even know that I had! With moves like curtsy squats, pliés, and releves, I was going until my legs were shaking from muscle fatigue. Now, only a few hours later, I can feel it in my legs that I’m going to be very sore for a few days.

I know I’ll be going to this barre class again next week. I’m a big fan of barre now and hope to be able to continue taking classes after my graduation (after which I won’t be able to enjoy the perks of the on-campus recreational center), perhaps from Pure Barre. I think this is a fun and interesting way to stay fit while also feeling good. I highly recommend taking a barre class if you’re interested!
