My MAC Cosmetics Essentials!

When I first started wearing makeup in high school, MAC was the makeup that I predominantly used. It had been the brand my mother was using and she helped me pick out the necessary items to make a solid makeup routine. Since then, I have bought several items from MAC. But, towards the end of high school, I had heard that MAC was not a cruelty-free company. Since my personal ethics are built upon pillars of how animals are treated, I stopped buying or using MAC products.

Two weeks ago, I was chatting with a friend who had worked for MAC and explained that the company had had a manufacturing contract in China, where there are different regulations regarding animals and cosmetics. MAC actually bought out their contract and have been cruelty-free ever since. This was great news to me because I have always loved their products and missed using their lipsticks. Now, I have found more MAC products that have become essential to my makeup routine. Here are some of my favorites!

Studio Fix Fluid Foundation SPF 15

This foundation has been a life-saver since I bought it in September. The formula is wonderful and it lasts all day while I’m at work. Even when wearing a mask, it doesn’t smudge. And it’s one of the best shade matches I’ve ever had. I’m a NC15, and it blends like a dream. I recommend the foundation, which you can snag for $33 right here! I’ve used a couple foundations over the years but this is the first one I ever used and it’s great to get back to the one that started it all.

Mineralize Concealer

I don’t use much concealer except to spot treat when my skin isn’t behaving. I use the Mineralize Concealer in NC20 and love how it works. It’s super hydrating and the formula is full of nutrients and hard-working botanicals. Honestly, this is the best concealer I have ever used because it covers everything and then also is good for the skin. I highly recommend trying it out!

Pro Longwear Paint Pot

Good eyeshadow bases are hard to come across. There are loads of options to choose from, but in my experience, the MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot works best. It goes on smoothly and holds the pigment of eyeshadow really well. I found that everything lasts longer with a strong base. It’s $23, which sounds pricery, but it lasts so long. The first one I had lasted for easily two years! A little goes a long way and it’s well-worth the price!

Prep and Prime Fix+ Shimmer

I had been using the Urban Decay setting spray for the longest time, just because it was a cult favourite. I never liked the smell and I didn’t think it made my makeup last as long as possible. I have always heard wonderful things about the Prep and Prime Fix+, and when I saw it came in a shimmer/glitter option, I knew I had to have it. The Fix+ Shimmer is gorgeous and really works! MAC has a lot of different Prep and Prime Fix+ options, and I’m going to check them all out in due time. As for right now, the Shimmer one is my personal fav!

One of MAC’s holy grails is their lipstick selection. I have several lipsticks from MAC and love each of them dearly. The formulas are wonderful and there are so many colours to choose from. I really like that there are different finishes for the lipsticks. I am a fan of the creamier formulas and also the mattes. My absolute favourite lipstick in the entire world is the Ruby Woo Retro Matte. I just love red lipsticks in general, but this is the one and only holy grail for me. If you were to only try one MAC product in the world, I would recommend one of their lipsticks.

These are my essential MAC products! I have used all of them multiple times (and replaced them when they were empty!). I really like MAC and how many options they offer. Have you tried MAC? What were your thoughts? Let me know! And, as always, thank you so much for reading!
