2021 was my best reading year yet. I read 117 books, which is kind of crazy to think about. 2022 is a fresh start and I’m excited to make a list of books that I want to read this year. There are a lot of new releases this year (many of which will be included in this post!) and there are some books I received last year that I just haven’t read yet. Without further ado, here are the books that I want to read in 2022!
House of Sky and Breath
I read House of Earth and Blood for the first time in 2020 and loved it. I cried for the last one hundred pages of the book and I’m already looking forward to rereading it in anticipation for the sequel. I was able to pre-order a signed edition of the Barnes and Noble exclusive edition and the unsigned Books-A-Million edition. I will be doing a reading vlog when I’m reading it so stay tuned for that on my channel!
The Atlas Six
This book was a huge Booktok sensation! I ordered the original self-published version last year and pre-ordered the Tor edition from Waterstones (linked here). I’ve heard some wonderful things and the sequel will be coming out this year, so it’s the perfect time to read it!
Caraval Series + Once Upon a Broken Heart
I have the Fairyloot edition of Once Upon a Broken Heart and I think it might be the prettiest book I own. I’m really looking forward to reading both series! They’re super popular for good reason and I’m excited about seeing how I like the different characters!
Year of the Reaper
This was the December Fairyloot book from 2021. It’s so gorgeous and the plot sounds super interesting so I am excited to read this sometime this year!
Vespertine
I’m a huge fan of Margaret Rogerson’s and I have two different copies of this book. It was the October book of the month for the Bookish Box’s YA box and I received the special edition from Fairyloot. I’ve heard good things about the book so far and it’s the first book in Rogerson’s new series.
Spoiler Alert + All the Feels
This was the November 2021 Illumicrate Afterlight book (and the special edition of Spoiler Alert). I’m a fan of romance books and I’m excited to read these books. They have very diverse characters and I’m looking forward to supporting this author.
Realm Breaker
Ever since the Red Queen series, I’ve been a fan of Victoria Aveyard. I have two editions of her new book (signed first edition and the Bookish Box exclusive edition that was included in their May YA box) and have already preordered the signed first edition of the second book, Blade Breaker. I’ve heard good things about the book so far!
These Violent Delights + Our Violent Ends
This duology was recently completed in the end of 2021. It’s a retelling of Romeo and Juliette in 1920s Shanghai with monsters, flappers, and crime. It checks all of the boxes and is apparently amazing. I will most likely do a reading vlog when I read this series!
What If It’s Us + Here’s to Us
Becky Albertalli is a great writer and I always support LGBTQ+ authors when I can. This is another duology that was recently completed. I’m excited to read it!
Weather Girl
Miss Rachel Lynn Solomon is a queen and she is pretty high on my auto-buy author list. Weather Girl is a cute rom-com novel where the main girl works at a news station as a weather girl and her love interest is a sports newscaster. There’s great diversity and I’m looking forward to reading it!
From Blood and Ash
I honestly can’t believe I haven’t read this yet. It has arguably the same popularity as ACOTAR. I have the special Bookish Box editions of this series, but still haven’t read it. A spinoff book has been published and the fourth book of the series is coming out in a few months. I should read it. I should. I just haven’t yet.
This is an incomplete list of the books that I want to read in 2022! I’m sure more books will be added and some may be removed. It’s the start of the new year and there’s plenty of time to read amazing books that I just haven’t gotten to yet. If you have any recommendations, please let me know down in the comments! Thank you so much for reading!
Love,
Kaitlin
